Digitally Exhausted came to be because I wanted a place to share my thoughts on tech’s societal impact. My writing covers social media’s spaghetti-like complexities, Big Tech, and action steps to balance digital life.
Reading (or listening) to Digitally Exhausted, I hope you become inspired to design a digital life for you, not default or “opt-in” to one.
If you’re interested in these topics, and down to stick around, subscribe 😊
Do y’all notice anything different about today’s post? If not, today’s share is different because I do not have audio.
I am trying not to be too upset about this. Because, alas, life happens. I also believe this is the first time I have not posted a voiceover since I committed to recording them.
(If you listen to the audio version of Digitally Exhausted, I would love to know. Substack does not have analytics for this so sharing whether or not you tune in would be a great help. Thanks 😊)
Sh*t hit the fan with my MacBook Pro. My display decided to become a prisoner with black horizontal lines running across it. The screen glitches too.
As I am writing this, my head is slightly turned to the right towards my external monitor to avoid being hypnotized by the horizontal chaos.
But before I continue with today’s digitally exhausted thoughts, I am committed to sharing a post every week. For today’s share, there is no audio because the thought of doing post-production makes my head swirl, so I hope the 13 of y’all can forgive me for no audio.
After clicking “share,” I am off to the computer doctor so I can hopefully be up and running next week.
But GEEZ… the anxiety of my broken screen is excruciating—okay, being a drama queen here—but thinking about all of the tasks I need to do without my laptop gives me butterflies in my chest, even typing this I feel them fluttering.
Here’s the thing… I have my phone. My handy dandy “smart” phone. Bless the Telephone! (Get it? The song by Labi Siffre.)
I have been using my phone this week for emails (which I strongly dislike doing) and homework for the Digital Wellness Educator course I am taking. Plus, I have an important meeting next week that I am super excited about but for some reason, my mind cannot shake the idea that doing Zoom meetings on the phone is unprofessional (what a silly goose thought!).
I have had tech issues with my laptop before. These things happen. What’s frustrating is the fact that I can get so upset from tech hiccups. Then I remember technology is unreliable even though we think it should always work.
(Side note: turning a device off and on can solve the problem. I don’t know why, but it can.)
Sometimes, tech just doesn’t work and that’s okay. So this week, or for who knows how long, I will be operating off of my phone.
In terms of next week’s post, the Substack app does not let you write or share posts so perhaps, I will take a gander to the library (I have never been to the public library here, so it will be an adventure) to write next week’s post.
Wherever you are, be there ✨
Borrowing restaurant wifi. One of the things I wanted to try to do to fix my screen was updating the software on my MacBook. I use my personal hotspot when I work from home so I decided to treat myself to a glass of cabernet while I eagerly waited for my computer to do it’s thing.
This is at the HYDE Hotel in Galway. If you ever want to be surrounded by roses and mirrors, this is the place to go.
Until next time,
Wherever you are, be there.
P.S. Here is the tune I shared in today’s post.
